Ava Yusuf is a London-based photographic artist working primarily with analogue photography. Her research-led practice explores identity, memory, belonging and the relationship between people, place and cultural history.

Working across portraiture, documentary photography, research and writing, she is interested in the ways individual lives are shaped by forces beyond the self — from family and inheritance to migration, politics, environment and the histories embedded within places.

At the centre of her practice is an interest in people: how we understand ourselves, how others perceive us, and the experiences that contribute to who we become. Her ongoing projects use photography as a means of looking more closely at experiences and histories that can be overlooked, simplified or misunderstood.
